MAY Airport (Clarence A. Bain Airport) – Cargo, Address, Transit

About This Airport

Building materials, provisions and fishing-lodge supplies reach Mangrove Cay by boat rather than by air, which sums up the role of Clarence A. Bain Airport (IATA: MAY, ICAO: MYAB) in South Andros, The Bahamas. The field has a single asphalt runway, 09/27, measuring 1,524 by 23 metres, and is served by regional carriers feeding from Nassau. It is an airport of entry on request, so customs attendance can be arranged when needed, but there is no permanent customs desk, no freight terminal, no handling agent and no warehousing. Cargo for the island therefore routes through Nassau (NAS) some 55 km to the east — the country's only meaningful air-freight point — and continues by mailboat from Potter's Cay or as small belly consignments on the feeder flight. Air freight to Nassau plus an onward hop works for urgent light shipments; anything palletised, heavy or bulky travels by sea. Eco-tourism and bonefishing drive what demand there is, so capacity follows the season rather than a freight cycle.
