AHU Airport (Cherif Al Idrissi Airport) – Cargo, Address, Transit

About This Airport

Set on Morocco's Mediterranean coast in the Rif mountains, Cherif Al Idrissi Airport (AHU/GMTA) serves Al Hoceima with a single terminal and a traffic profile built around passengers rather than goods. The airport is operated by the national airport authority ONDA, while Swissport has provided ground handling and cargo handling on site since 2014. Demand is strongly seasonal and recovering — traffic between January and August 2024 ran about 19 percent above the same period a year earlier — but freight here is essentially belly cargo on flights to Casablanca and to the diaspora destinations in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany. There is no confirmed dedicated cargo terminal and no regular freighter service. For air freight into northern Morocco the workable options are Nador Al Aroui (NDR) roughly 150 road kilometres to the east, Tangier Ibn Battouta (TNG) to the west, and above all Casablanca Mohammed V (CMN), the country's principal cargo gateway. Customs clearance is handled throughout by the Moroccan customs administration ADII, and for heavier or bulkier consignments the sea route via Tanger Med, reached along the Mediterranean coastal road, is a serious alternative.
