CJJ Airport (Cheongju International Airport/Cheongju Air Base (K-59/G-513)) – Cargo, Address, Transit

About This Airport

Cheongju International Airport (CJJ/RKTU) handled a record 4.67 million passengers in 2025, and its international traffic alone rose from 520,000 in 2022 to 1.94 million in 2024. The route map covers China, Japan and Taiwan plus seasonal Southeast Asian points, with T'way Air adding Ulaanbaatar from 29 April 2025 and Denpasar from 25 September 2025. Those numbers do not translate into freight capability: the airport has no dedicated cargo terminal, cargo moves as belly capacity on passenger flights, and any expansion is described by the authorities as a medium to long term question to be settled with the military, since Cheongju is a joint civil-military field sharing its runways with Cheongju Air Base. Industry in North Chungcheong province — SK Hynix semiconductor fabs in Cheongju, LG Energy Solution battery cells at Ochang and a biopharmaceutical cluster in the same area — depends heavily on airfreight but routes almost all of it through Incheon International (ICN), Korea's dominant cargo gateway roughly 150 road kilometres to the northwest. Gimhae in Busan (PUS) is the practical second option for flows in the southeast. A domestic terminal extension is due by 2027 and the region is lobbying for a civil-only runway and a cargo terminal, so treat CJJ today as a passenger airport with belly capacity rather than an air logistics hub.
