About This Airport
Thirty kilometres separate Al Taji Army Air Field from Baghdad International Airport, but only one of the two matters to a shipper. Al Taji is an Iraqi Army aviation base inside Camp Taji, north of Baghdad, owned by the Ministry of Defence and closed to civil and commercial traffic. The counter-Daesh coalition completed the handover of the camp to Iraqi Security Forces on 23 August 2020, and it has remained under Iraqi control since. Air freight for central Iraq therefore runs exclusively through Baghdad International (BGW), which handles both belly cargo and freighter flights, with onward trucking to Taji, Baghdad and the surrounding governorates. Consignments for northern Iraq are often routed via Erbil (EBL) or Sulaymaniyah (ISU) instead. Iraqi import rules, including pre-shipment inspection for certain goods, should be clarified with the consignee and the customs broker before booking.
