JEG Airport (Aasiaat Airport) – Cargo, Address, Transit

About This Airport

Ships carry the weight and aircraft carry the urgency in Disko Bay — and Aasiaat Airport (IATA: JEG, ICAO: BGAA) covers the second half of that split. Opened in 1998 about two kilometres north-east of the island town, it sits in Air Greenland's domestic network, served mainly by Dash 8 aircraft to Ilulissat and Nuuk. Settlement flights around the Aasiaat archipelago operate only in winter and spring; in summer and autumn the villages are reached by sea. There is no cargo terminal and no freight handling beyond belly capacity, with heavy supplies arriving on Royal Arctic Line vessels. Greenland's national air cargo hub is Nuuk (IATA: GOH), roughly 560 km south, while Ilulissat (IATA: JAV) is gaining weight in the north: a new 2,200-metre runway allows larger jets and Air Greenland plans a direct Copenhagen service from 29 October 2026. The 2026 winter schedule includes same-day connections from Copenhagen to Aasiaat on Wednesdays, useful for spare parts and urgent consignments from Europe.
