Air Tanzania Cargo is the freight arm of Air Tanzania Company Limited (ATCL), the state-owned airline of the United Republic of Tanzania, headquartered at ATC House on Ohio Street in Dar es Salaam. The cargo arm holds no air operator certificate of its own; all flights are operated by ATCL itself. The company is an IATA member and, by its own account, IOSA certified. IATA lists it with designator TC, ICAO code ATC and airline code 197, which also serves as the AWB prefix. The operating model has two parts. Since 3 June 2023 ATCL has operated its own Boeing 767-300F, the first factory-new 767 freighter Boeing delivered directly to an African carrier. The manufacturer states a payload of more than 52 tonnes over 3,255 nautical miles; the carrier itself quotes 6,025 kilometres at full cargo load for the type. Alongside this, ATCL markets belly capacity across its passenger fleet, which according to the carrier (as of September 2026) comprises sixteen aircraft: three Boeing 787-8, two Boeing 737 MAX 9, four Airbus A220-300, five Dash 8-Q400, one Dash 8-Q300 and the Boeing 767-300F mentioned above. The hub is Julius Nyerere International Airport in Dar es Salaam (DAR). From there ATCL states that it serves more than 35 destinations with over 120 weekly flights, including Dubai, Mumbai, Guangzhou and Moscow, and within Africa Nairobi, Entebbe, Bujumbura, Kinshasa, Lubumbashi, Lusaka, Ndola, Harare, Victoria Falls, Johannesburg, Cape Town, Lagos, Accra, Moroni and Mahé. What matters for forwarders: the carrier accepts general cargo, perishables, live animals, valuables, dangerous goods, human remains and express shipments, and states that this offer applies across the whole network.
