21 Air, LLC is a United States all-cargo airline headquartered in Greensboro, North Carolina, with its operational centre of gravity in Miami, Florida. The company holds its own air carrier certificate under 14 CFR Part 121 and does not act as a contracting carrier towards shippers, but as an operator for third parties: it supplies aircraft, crew, maintenance and insurance (ACMI), provides crew and maintenance for customer-owned aircraft (CMI), and flies charters. The owner is the US entrepreneur Jim Crane, founder of Crane Worldwide Logistics; legally, 21 Air is held through Avia Acquisitions LLC. Canadian freight carrier Cargojet, a 25 percent shareholder since 2021, divested its stake in April 2026. Keith Winters has been interim CEO since early 2026, succeeding Tim Strauss. According to the owner, the fleet comprised 16 freighters in April 2026: seven Boeing 767-300s flying in Amazon Air's domestic network, plus four further Boeing 767-300s, two Boeing 767-200s and three Boeing 757-200s for DHL Express, Cargojet and other principals (as of April 2026). Most of the aircraft are supplied by the customers themselves. 21 Air is pursuing type approval for Boeing 777 freighters in order to enter long-haul operations. The network focuses on Miami, with traffic to Latin America and the Caribbean, and on Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky, where DHL Express runs its Americas hub and 21 Air maintains its own operations centre. What matters for forwarders: based on the scope of services shown on its own website, 21 Air offers neither a cargo product for shippers nor its own shipment tracking; booking, air waybill and tracking run through the respective principal. On 6 September 2026 Flight 7598 overran the runway on landing in Miami; five people on the ground were killed. Amazon subsequently suspended the partnership, and the NTSB investigation is ongoing.
