As of July 2026 — The United Kingdom was, in May 2025, the first country to reach a tariff agreement with the United States: the legally non-binding "Economic Prosperity Deal" (EPD) of 8 May 2025. Since then, most British goods exports face a baseline tariff of 10 percent. This was initially based on the emergency-powers statute IEEPA; following the US Supreme Court ruling of 20 February 2026 (Learning Resources, Inc. v. Trump) it was shifted to the temporary 10 percent Section 122 surcharge (expiring around 24 July 2026), with the effective rate for the UK unchanged. Aerospace products (engines and parts covered by the WTO Agreement on Trade in Civil Aircraft) were cut to zero. Passenger cars benefit from a tariff-rate quota of 100,000 vehicles per year at 10 percent (including the most-favoured-nation duty); above the quota the 25 percent Section 232 rate applies, as it does to auto parts (10%). Steel and aluminium were initially subject to a reduced 25 percent rate (exempt from the increase to 50 percent from 4 June 2025), while the zero-quota promised in the EPD was not implemented; with the Section 232 overhaul of 1 June 2026 (effective 8 June 2026) the UK was brought into the group of framework-partner countries whose Section 232 rate is capped at a total of 15 percent. In December 2025 the US suspended implementation of the memorandum of understanding amid a dispute over non-tariff barriers.
