A shipment has been delivered – yet weeks may pass before an invoice arrives and payment is received: that is precisely what the transport billing cycle describes. It covers the full sequence from service delivery through data capture (weights, transit times, surcharges) and invoice generation to final payment receipt. Many carriers and freight forwarders operate on monthly billing intervals, and the elapsed time between service rendered and payment collected – known as days sales outstanding (DSO) – has a direct impact on working capital.
