Unlike an internal shipment reference assigned by a freight forwarder, the Movement Reference Number (MRN) is an official customs identifier: a unique 18-character alphanumeric code automatically generated when a customs declaration is accepted by the customs authority – whether for a transit procedure (T1/T2 under NCTS), an export declaration, or another customs regime.
