Jettisoned Cargo Loss Claims

When cargo is deliberately jettisoned to save a vessel or remaining cargo from peril, the owner's loss claim differs fundamentally from ordinary cargo damage: it is recoverable from the general average fund—a pooled liability covering the ship and all cargo benefiting from the jettison.
