Intermodal logistics refers to the planning, coordination and execution of transport chains that combine multiple modes of transport (e.g. road, rail, inland waterway, maritime) using standardized loading units (e.g. containers, swap bodies), enabling shipment to be carried out under a single transport contract with through billing.
