Declaration replacement via e-dec Web means substituting an already submitted import customs declaration with a corrected version, as long as the assessment has not yet become legally final – as opposed to fully cancelling the declaration. For private individuals and occasional declarants this simply means a typing error or a last-minute change in the shipping papers can still be corrected without starting over. For professionals (forwarders, shippers, customs agents) it typically corrects quantities, tariff numbers, invoice values or other declaration elements; the system creates a new, fully validated version of the goods declaration rather than a silent background amendment. Only once the assessment is completed does the electronic assessment decision (eVV) serve as legal proof; later changes then go through the customs authority's ordinary correction/appeal procedure. Context: e-dec Web is the free web application of the Swiss Federal Office for Customs and Border Security (BAZG) for declarants without their own customs software and is being replaced by the new Passar goods-traffic system under the DaziT programme; the Declar web application is expected to replace e-dec Web by the end of Q3 2027 (planning status, subject to change).
