Consolidated air freight gives shippers with small volumes access to air transport without the cost of a full individual carrier booking. An air freight consolidator groups shipments from multiple customers into a single unit load, books capacity with an airline, and allocates freight charges proportionally among participants. Each shipper receives a House Air Waybill (HAWB), while the consolidator holds the Master Air Waybill (MAWB) with the carrier. The service suits time-sensitive, lightweight, or high-value cargo – electronics, spare parts, pharmaceuticals – where air is the required mode but individual shipment sizes make direct bookings uneconomical. Compared to express services, consolidation adds transit time due to collection and deconsolidation steps and offers less flexibility for last-minute changes. Not to be confused with LCL ocean consolidation, which operates under different tariff structures and minimum volume thresholds.
