Forwarding companies in Germany routinely base their contracts on the ADSp – Allgemeine Deutsche Spediteurbedingungen, or General German Forwarding Conditions – published by the German Association for Forwarding and Logistics (DSLV). The ADSp define the forwarder's scope of services (transport, warehousing, handling, customs documentation), the extent and exclusions of liability, and the time limits for damage notifications and claims. They also govern the engagement of subcontractors and the forfeiture of claims upon expiry of set deadlines. Although the ADSp are private contractual terms and not statutory law, they function as the industry's de facto standard and must be expressly incorporated into the contract. In cross-border transport, mandatory international conventions such as the CMR or CIM take precedence where they conflict with ADSp provisions.
