Hamburg Port and Logistics AG, known as HHLA, has once again lowered its earnings forecast for 2026. The group now expects operating profit before interest and taxes of 115 to 135 million euros. Previously, 150 to 170 million euros had been projected.
According to the statement dated October 22, the reasons cited include strike-related disruptions and burdens during the further automation of Hamburg's container terminals. Additionally, there is a write-down of approximately twelve million euros. This involves a reduction in book value; it is not a direct cash outflow of the same amount.
For transport planning, the profit warning should be clearly separated from a concrete operational disruption. It is not a blanket announcement that all Hamburg terminals are at a standstill. What effects a restructuring will have on your own shipment must be clarified with the actual booked terminal.
Shippers and freight forwarders should particularly confirm the release, pickup options, and hinterland connections for time-critical containers. If rail or inland waterway has been booked for the onward transport, a suitable slot is also needed there. A shift in transhipment can otherwise result in a missed connection. Whether additional storage costs are incurred depends on the shipment, free periods, and agreed terms and conditions.
