About This Seaport
About 57.5 million tonnes of cargo, some 208,400 TEU and roughly 21,600 vessel calls a year define Yokkaichi, a largely reclaimed industrial port on Ise Bay in southern Honshu. Large refining and petrochemical complexes set its character, served by offshore oil berths such as Showa Yokkaichi and Cosmo. The port is organised into three areas: an inner zone for chemicals, minerals, fertiliser, grain, machinery and steel; a central oil-berth zone; and an outer harbour holding the main container terminal alongside coal, steel, aggregates, cement and general cargo. Containers, tankers, ro-ro, dry bulk and lumber all pass through. Since 2017 the Nagoya-Yokkaichi International Port Corporation has run operations jointly with neighbouring Nagoya. For larger container volumes in the Ise Bay area, that same Port of Nagoya is the clearly stronger alternative.
