About This Seaport
Live cattle, sugar and agricultural produce outbound, bulk fuel, fertiliser and mining-grade ammonium nitrate inbound — the cargo mix at Wyndham reflects its role as the principal port of the Kimberley in northern Western Australia. Set at the southern end of Cambridge Gulf, the port works a single jetty with two deep-water berths able to take general, bulk and containerised cargo. Operations are run by Cambridge Gulf Limited on behalf of the Kimberley Ports Authority, with the facility owned by the state Department of Transport. The gulf's very large tidal range makes berthing tide-dependent, and there is no regular container liner service. Road links carry freight inland across the Kimberley, but for sizeable container or project volumes shippers turn to Darwin in the Northern Territory or to Broome further down the coast.
