About This Seaport
Westport is a heritage quay, not a working freight port: this Georgian harbour on Clew Bay in County Mayo no longer handles commercial shipping. Its 18th-century warehouses now house galleries, restaurants and pubs, and only shallow-draught vessels (up to about 3.1 metres at high water springs) reach the 928-metre quay. For forwarders its cargo relevance is therefore minimal. Commercial traffic for the Connacht region runs through Galway, with bulk and industrial cargo via Foynes/Shannon and containers via Dublin.
