About This Seaport
Its UN/LOCODE IE WAT marks Ireland's oldest city, yet the working Port of Waterford sits a few kilometres downstream at the Belview terminal on the River Suir. In 2024 the port moved about 2.95 million tonnes of cargo and roughly 12,400 TEU; containers made up only 8% of volume but a far larger share of revenue. Belview offers the southeast's only deep-water berths at around 12.4 metres, handling Panamax vessels of some 200 metres alongside dry bulk, pharmaceuticals and growing volumes of Celtic Sea offshore-wind components. Road and rail give solid access to the regional hinterland, and a €45 million investment is deepening the berths and expanding yard capacity. For Irish shippers, Waterford is a credible alternative to Dublin and Cork (Ringaskiddy), particularly on feeder and short-sea links to continental Europe and Britain. The mix of container, bulk and project cargo makes it a true regional gateway rather than a single-trade quay.
