Although it grew up around a sawmill from 1945 and gained a deep-sea dock in 1970, Tahsis (CA PTA) lost its cargo role when the mill closed in 2001. The village at the head of the 27 km Tahsis Inlet, on the west coast of Vancouver Island, now lives on sport fishing, tourism and recreation. Despite ample natural depth, there is no active commercial cargo handling and no customs clearance. Containers, breakbulk and bulk move through Port Alberni, Nanaimo or Vancouver.
