About This Seaport
Northern Sweden's forest industry sets the rhythm at Sundsvall, whose Tunadal port has shipped pulp, sawn timber and paper since SCA opened its terminal here in 1967. Forest products remain the core trade, but in spring 2024 SCA Logistics inaugurated a new container port with a 185-metre quay and a 15-metre draught able to take the largest vessels on the Baltic. Alongside it, the Sundsvall Logistikpark added an intermodal terminal linking sea, electrified rail and road in one transfer. Beyond timber and pulp, the port handles containers, palletised goods, cross-docking and project cargo for industries across the surrounding region. Customs and export formalities follow EU single-market rules. For very large container volumes, Gävle or Stockholm Norvik remain stronger options, while Sundsvall's edge is forest and industrial freight bound to and from northern Sweden.
