About This Seaport
Known as Port Harmon until its 2016 renaming, the Port of Stephenville anchors maritime trade in western Newfoundland on the Gulf of Saint Lawrence. The sheltered, ice-free deep-sea facility operates year-round, offering a 293-metre quay with 10.1 metres alongside and berthing for vessels up to 385 metres. Boom cranes, a jib crane and forklifts handle aggregate, breakbulk, project cargo and occasional containers, while an on-dock customs bonded warehouse supports storage and trans-shipment under seal. Because Newfoundland has had no railway since 1988, all hinterland movement runs by road via the Trans-Canada Highway. Shippers needing scheduled container services generally route through Corner Brook or St. John's, both served by Oceanex. For project, heavy-lift and bulk consignments toward Atlantic Canada, Europe and the Arctic, Stephenville is a practical Atlantic entry point.
