About This Seaport
Sandarne on the Gulf of Bothnia (Hälsingland, about 10 km north of Söderhamn) is home to two independent industrial terminals. SMA Mineral has operated a lime plant here since 1996, when it took over the site from Stora Cell's closed pulp mill. It is the company's only meso-kiln facility: cellulose lime arrives by sea, is customised to customer specifications and shipped in bulk back to the Swedish pulp industry. Kraton Chemical AB operates a separate berth for its tall oil refinery, shipping liquid tall oil products — pitch oil, tall rosin and related specialty chemicals. Port services at both facilities are provided by Söderhamns Stuveri & Hamn AB (SSHAB), which also operates at Vallvik and Ala. No container or general cargo handling takes place; for larger volumes or different cargo types, the port of Söderhamn is the regional alternative.
