Operated by Traverse Rivière-du-Loup–Saint-Siméon together with the Société des traversiers du Québec, Rivière-du-Loup (CA RDL) functions primarily as a seasonal ferry terminal crossing the St. Lawrence to Saint-Siméon in the Charlevoix region. The single vessel, the Trans-St-Laurent, carries roughly 100 vehicles and 380 passengers on several daily sailings from late March to early January. With a channel depth of only 1.8 m, the harbour is not configured for containerised, breakbulk or bulk freight, and no scheduled cargo terminal or customs handling is confirmed. Commercial cargo in the Lower St. Lawrence moves through the nearby deep-water Port of Gros-Cacouna, which handles forest products, general and dry-bulk goods and wind-turbine components — and is also slated to take over the ferry service.
