About This Seaport
Once a company town built around a single pulp mill, Port Alice today is a port in name more than in function. Founded in 1917 on northern Vancouver Island and named after Alice Whalen, it depended on that one plant until the mill closed for good in 2015 and was demolished in 2023, leaving the wharf with only very limited freight relevance. Regular container, breakbulk or customs handling is not confirmed here. Sea-freight users in the north of the island rely in practice on Port Hardy, Nanaimo or the Vancouver gateway.
