About This Seaport
Scrap metal, oil products, timber, loose peat and RoRo traffic make up the working cargo of Paldiski North Harbour, about 45 km west of Tallinn on the Gulf of Finland, where the Port of Tallinn moves roughly 850,000 tonnes and handles some 600 vessels a year. Quay depths of around 12 m suit conventional freighters and ro-pax units. In February 2026 the adjacent Paldiski South Harbour received its operating permit: a new 310 m quay with 13.5 m depth and a 10-hectare backup area designed for wind energy components, heavy military equipment and project cargo, with a total investment of EUR 64 million, of which EUR 20 million was EU co-financing under the EstMilMob programme for civil-military transport mobility. The first vessel calls brought components for an onshore wind farm in Latvia. Estonian road and rail tie the North Harbour to Tallinn and the wider hinterland. For container liner services, Muuga — Port of Tallinn's main cargo harbour — remains the first choice.
