About This Seaport
Omisalj (HR OMI) is best understood not as a cargo port but as one of Southeast Europe's energy gateways. On the northern shore of the island of Krk, the JANAF terminal receives, stores and dispatches crude oil and petroleum products, feeding a 622-kilometre pipeline that supplies Slovenia, Hungary, Slovakia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia at a capacity of around 34 million tonnes per year. Two tanker berths fitted with crude and product unloading arms, together with deep water of more than 23 metres, allow large tankers to be handled. Since 2021 an LNG terminal has operated alongside, its regasification capacity raised to roughly 6.1 billion cubic metres of natural gas per year after a recent upgrade. Containers, breakbulk and conventional commercial customs clearance are not part of its role. For boxed or general cargo in the region, nearby Rijeka (Brajdica terminal) is the practical choice.
