Around 6,000 containers a month across 10 to 15 liner calls move through Mogadishu (SO MGQ), Somalia's principal seaport on the Indian Ocean. Run as Mogadishu Alport by Türkiye's Albayrak Group with the Mogadishu Port Authority since 2014, the multipurpose facility handles containers, dry and general cargo, liquids, Ro-Ro and live animals, serving as the country's main gateway for food and consumer imports. A recent terminal expansion with new cranes and reach stackers raised container capacity from 150,000 to roughly 180,000 TEU, targeting 250,000 TEU.
