About This Seaport
Operated by QSL on behalf of the Société portuaire du Bas-Saint-Laurent et de la Gaspésie, Matane (CA MNE) is a year-round port on the south shore of the St Lawrence in eastern Quebec. Its cargo mix centres on forest products, general cargo, dry bulk and project loads such as wind-turbine components rather than container liner traffic. A roll-on/roll-off ferry connects Matane with Baie-Comeau and Godbout on the North Shore, carrying passengers, cars and trucks across the estuary in about two hours. The rail ferry Georges-Alexandre-Lebel extends standard-gauge wagons to northern Quebec and Labrador, moving consumer goods, metals, petroleum products, chemicals and oversized cargo. Inland access runs via Route 132 and, through the rail ferry, onto the North Shore network. Containerised shipments are better routed through Québec, Trois-Rivières or Sept-Îles.
