About This Seaport
A trimodal terminal on the St. Lawrence Seaway, the Port of Johnstown pairs deep marine dockage with direct Canadian National rail and highway access in eastern Ontario, roughly 100 km south of Ottawa. Bulk dominates the throughput: grain, aggregates, road salt and slag, complemented by wind-energy components and dimensional steel products. In 2024 the port handled about 1.46 million tonnes in total, including 982,024 tonnes of grain. A modernised elevator fitted with three new NEUERO loading spouts, a CAD 12.5 million upgrade, speeds vessel loading, and as the only open port in the Seaway system the elevator accepts grain from any shipper. Operations are run by Logistec under a renewed ten-year agreement. There is no container traffic; boxed cargo routes through Montréal or Hamilton.
