About This Seaport
Finished cars are Grimsby's signature cargo: more than 500,000 vehicles a year cross this port at the mouth of the Humber, one of the UK's leading automotive gateways. Operated by Associated British Ports, the Grimsby River Terminal takes RoRo vessels carrying up to 3,000 vehicles, and together Grimsby and neighbouring Immingham handled around 800,000 units in 2023, roughly 85% of them imports. Marques including Toyota, Volkswagen, BMW and Jaguar Land Rover route through the twin ports for the British market. Grimsby has also grown into an offshore-wind base, while its fishing heritage now lives mainly in the older docks. Road and rail give it a central position between northern and southern England. A new 28-hectare vehicle storage site at Stallingborough is due from 2026 and is set to lift the Humber ports' vehicle capacity by about 50%. For dry and liquid bulk, sister port Immingham is the UK's largest by tonnage.
