About This Seaport
Operated solely for ExxonMobil's neighbouring Esso refinery, the Fawley Marine Terminal on Southampton Water is a liquid-bulk facility rather than a general cargo port. Its jetty — the longest privately owned pier in Europe at roughly 1.5 km — handles around 2,000 ship movements and some 22 million tonnes of crude oil and petroleum products each year. The refinery behind it processes about 270,000 barrels per day, close to a fifth of UK refining capacity, producing LPG, petrol, jet fuel, diesel, marine fuels and lubricants. There are no container, reefer or RoRo services here; finished products leave largely by a 700 km pipeline network to inland terminals and airports, with more than 90% of petrochemicals moving by sea from the deepwater berths.
