About This Seaport
Deep natural water defines Duncan Bay: an approach channel around 23 m, anchorage to 30 m and a pier depth near 9.4 m sit just north of Campbell River on Vancouver Island. The bay grew up around forest-products industry — the neighbouring Elk Falls pulp mill ran from 1952 to 2010 — and the Duncan Bay Barge Terminal still handles barge traffic. This is an industrial and barge facility rather than a public multipurpose terminal; container lines and international breakbulk services do not call here. Close by, the Campbell River Marine Terminal loads mineral concentrates including zinc, copper and gold. Highway 19 provides the road link south toward Nanaimo and the wider Vancouver Island corridor. For containers or RoRo, shippers route through DP World's Duke Point terminal at Nanaimo or the Port of Vancouver.
