About This Seaport
Once a busy Great Lakes shipbuilding and grain-shipping town, Collingwood on Georgian Bay no longer works as a commercial cargo port: the shipyard closed in 1986 and the landmark 1929 grain elevator fell silent in 1993. The sheltered basin, with about 6.4 m alongside, now serves pleasure craft rather than freighters. No container, breakbulk or customs services operate here today. Forwarders moving commercial cargo in the region use Owen Sound or, at the head of Lake Ontario, the Port of Hamilton.
