About This Seaport
A single supply wharf and a year-round ferry define Blanc-Sablon, Quebec's easternmost port on the Strait of Belle Isle near the Labrador border. The quay handles roughly 14,000 tonnes of cargo a year, mainly general goods and petroleum products for the road-isolated Lower North Shore, alongside longliners and trawlers from the local fishery. A daily ferry carries passengers and freight to St. Barbe, Newfoundland, in about 1.5 hours. The port offers no container handling or international customs clearance and works strictly as a regional supply and ferry link. Because the Lower North Shore has no road connection to the rest of Quebec, sea and air are the only ways in. For liner or container cargo, Sept-Îles, around 350 km up the gulf, is the nearest larger port.
