Overview
The Gambia (ISO code GM) lies in West Africa and stretches along the Gambia River, surrounded by Senegal with a short Atlantic coastline. It is a presidential republic with a tropical climate marked by distinct rainy and dry seasons. The economy is driven by agriculture (notably groundnuts and cashew), fisheries, tourism and trade. Foreign trade matters: exports are mostly agricultural products, while the country depends heavily on imports of fuel, food and manufactured goods.
