Maersk Air Cargo A/S is the in-house freight airline of Denmark's A.P. Moller - Maersk, the air freight arm of a group otherwise known for container shipping and integrated logistics. The company is registered in the Danish business register under CVR number 40854126, is based at Esplanaden 50 in 1263 Copenhagen and was incorporated on 11 October 2019. It took its present shape in April 2022, when A.P. Moller - Maersk introduced the Maersk Air Cargo brand and transferred the operations of its in-house operator Star Air into the company; the Danish civil aviation authority supported the transition. Star Air has been flying since 1987 and long operated mainly as a night freight carrier for courier services in Europe - part of the Boeing 767 fleet still flies under contract for third parties. The operating model covers scheduled freighter rotations, charter and ACMI, complemented by purchased belly capacity on other airlines and by trucking on the feeder legs. According to the company, the fleet comprised 18 Boeing freighters on 5 February 2026, of them two Boeing 777Fs and 16 Boeing 767Fs; three further Boeing 767-300Fs operated by Amerijet on the transpacific lane were handed over in March 2026. The European hub is Billund (BLL) in Jutland, where Maersk has used a dedicated facility since March 2023 with 4,000 square metres of import and 13,000 square metres of export space plus cold storage, a dangerous goods area, scanning and ULD handling. Own freighters run from there to Hangzhou and Zhengzhou; Liège (LGG) serves as the second European point of call for the Boeing 777Fs. For forwarders the relevant codes are IATA designator DJ, ICAO designator SRR and AWB prefix 763. Tracking runs through the air freight portal on maersk.com. Accepted commodities include general cargo, dangerous goods of all nine classes as well as outsize and valuable cargo; temperature-controlled and perishable shipments are assessed case by case.
