Definition & Explanation
A driver pulls up at 2 p.m. only to find the receiving dock closed because deliveries were accepted until noon. That is the window of delivery in practice: the contractually or operationally defined time slot within which a shipment must arrive at its destination. In B2B logistics it coordinates dock scheduling and prevents bottlenecks at goods receipt; in e-commerce it lets recipients fit deliveries into their day. Missing the window typically generates re-delivery charges, waiting-time fees, or rescheduling costs—some contracts include penalty clauses. The closely related pick-up window applies the same principle on the collection side.
