Shipping lines, ship agents, and port operators submit vessel arrival notifications, crew lists, cargo manifests, and security declarations once through a harmonized national interface; the data is automatically distributed to all competent authorities – border control, customs, port authority, health services. The legal basis is the EU regulation establishing the Single Window environment for maritime, which mandates uniform system requirements across all member states. This cuts berth waiting times, eliminates parallel data entry across separate agency portals, and increases visibility in vessel traffic. Unlike the EU Customs Single Window, which covers cross-border goods movements across all transport modes, the Maritime Single Window is exclusively oriented toward maritime shipping and port-related administrative processes.
