Transport network slicing is the partitioning of a shared physical network infrastructure into multiple logically isolated virtual sub-networks.

Transport network slicing is the partitioning of a shared physical network infrastructure into multiple logically isolated virtual sub-networks. Each slice operates with its own performance guarantees, priority rules, and dedicated resource allocations (such as bandwidth, capacity, or response times). This allows different requirements to be served simultaneously: an express slice with higher priority for urgent shipments, a standard slice for bulk cargo, an IoT slice for sensor-enabled tracking. Currently, the technology is well established in 5G networks; in the transport sector, it remains an emerging concept.
