Definition & Explanation
Range denotes the distance a vehicle can travel on a full charge or tank without recharging or refuelling. For electric vehicles, and electric trucks in particular, the stated figure depends heavily on the test conditions: gross weight, driving speed, ambient temperature and terrain profile all materially affect energy consumption and therefore the range actually achievable in everyday operation. Manufacturer figures are valid only under the stated conditions and cannot simply be transferred to other use cases such as mountain routes or winter operation. For fleet managers, range is, alongside payload and charging infrastructure, one of the key factors in judging whether a vehicle suits a given tour.
