NAES (National Automated Export System) gives U.S. exporters and freight forwarders the infrastructure to submit Electronic Export Information (EEI) electronically before cargo departs the United States. Filing is mandatory for most commercial exports and is submitted to the U.S. Census Bureau and U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Two submission channels are available: AESDirect for individual shipments and AESBatch for bulk filings. Late or missing EEI can result in cargo holds at the port of exit and substantial civil penalties. The system feeds export trade statistics and supports export control compliance, making it a compliance cornerstone for any U.S.-based exporter or non-vessel operating common carrier.
