In logistics terminology, a 4PL provider – also referred to as a Lead Logistics Services provider – operates above the operational layer: it owns no trucks, warehouses, or physical infrastructure, but instead manages and optimises an entire network of 3PLs, carriers, and other service providers on the shipper's behalf.
