In maritime law, the General Average Contribution is the share of costs that must be borne collectively by all interests involved in a voyage when a general average act is made to save property, lives, or the voyage. It is an apportioned contribution assessed against cargo owners, cargo interests, or other parties to compensate those who incurred a sacrifice or expenditure for the common good.
