Once recorded, the gate in triggers an inbound receipt entry in the terminal operating system (TOS) or warehouse management system (WMS), updates stock records, and generates a timestamp that anchors the facility's liability. At port terminals, no container can be assigned to a vessel load plan without a confirmed gate in. This distinguishes the gate in from earlier documentary steps such as the booking confirmation or pre-arrival notification.
