When a charterer ships bulk cargo or project freight, the FIOS clause – Free In and Out and Stowed – is a common fixture in the charter party: it places the full cost and responsibility for loading, stowing the cargo in the hold, and discharging at the destination squarely on the charterer, not the shipowner.
