Freight forwarders, warehouse operators, and manufacturers use free zones—also known as free ports, free trade zones, or bonded warehouses—to store, transship, or process goods without triggering import duties. Customs debt arises only when goods leave the zone and enter free circulation; until that point they remain under customs supervision but are not formally cleared.
