Before shipping a machine, an exporter must ask: Does it require an export license? Is the destination country sanctioned? Export control compliance means systematically answering such questions and checking all exports of goods, technology, and services against applicable national and international export control laws, restricted goods lists, and sanctions regimes. Companies must assess risks, obtain authorizations, screen end-users and destinations, and maintain records to prevent dual-use goods, defense articles, or technical data from reaching prohibited parties. Non-compliance carries severe penalties, credit loss, and criminal exposure.
