Definition & Explanation
A shipper with twenty cartons of electronics needs air freight – too little for dedicated capacity, too costly at standard tariffs. Export air freight consolidation solves this: a consolidator groups shipments from multiple exporters under a single Master Air Waybill (MAWB), issuing individual House Air Waybills (HAWBs) to each shipper so every party remains traceable within the overall consignment. Pooling volume unlocks per-kilogram rates that no individual shipper could negotiate alone, spreading minimum charges and base tariffs across all participants. At the destination, a local break-bulk agent deconsolidates the shipment and releases each parcel to its respective consignee. The model is standard practice for time-sensitive but volume-limited exports in sectors such as electronics, pharmaceuticals, and fashion.
